The subject matter means this obviously isn't the most upbeat movie you'll ever see, but it's an often uncomfortable and affecting movie that's quietly touching acted wonderfully right across the board.
Gyllenhall's great as always in a brilliantly layered performance, the mother/daughter scenes are heartbreakingly natural and Danny Trejo plays against type with great results.
