Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Robert P — 16 Nov 2010
Gyllenhaal is at turns convincing and Oscar-pandering and the whole thing lurches between competency and unsure indie attempt. There are several good moments where the flaws of the characters are displayed in interesting ways, but during the rest it feels as though the film tries to cover it up by being more ``adult''.
Sure, it's a lot of people acting selfishly, which I would have expected to find a lot more interesting. Throughout it all I kept waiting for the big moment that never came. Maybe that's the point, but it just wasn't one I wanted to see.
