Review of Sherlock Jr. (1924) by Walter C — 15 Dec 2009
Buster Keaton plays a projectionist who is studying to be a detective. The money that he has saved from his job he uses to buy a present for a girl he has a thing for but his well dressed rival, not to be outdone steals a watch from the girl's father, pawns it and sells it to buy an even bigger present for the girl. When the father notices that the watch is missing, the rival plants the pawn shop receipt in Buster's pocket to frame him for the crime.
Being framed and kicked out of the house, Buster goes to work and falls to sleep and dreams about walking into the movie screen and solving the crime.
The stunts and optical effects during the whole movie dream sequence are incredible. Absolutely incredible and should be watched for that alone.
