Keaton proves once again that he is something more than a pantomime comedian- he is a daring stuntman, a cinematic magician and a masterful storyteller. This early mise-en-abyme showcases a whole variety of exhibtionist filmmaking ranging from surprising comedic twists to jaw-dropping visual stunts; Keaton juggles his work within a work wonderfully, emphasizing sweet character bonds between the dopey film reel operator and the professional detective.
A loving homage to all who learn by watching the screen.
