Review of Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking (2004) by Peter S — 02 Jan 2016
As far as I'm concerned, the best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes ever, on the small or big screens. It's obvious that Rupert Everett delved into the books because his portrayal also happens to be the closest to the literary Holmes.
Flawed, self-absorbed and a hopeless addict, Everett treats us to a still-infallible yet completely-human Holmes. If only his name became synonymous with theatrical Holmes instead of the abominable Basil Rathbone. Sigh.
The mystery is a good one. I saw one reviewer say it was "predictable". If true, then I'm a idiot because it wasn't the slightest bit predictable to me. I saw the twist at about the same time Holmes did, so that was pretty satisfying.
Acting was superb all around. Set design and production were fantastic. If you truly love "whodunnits" then there's not much here not to love.
