Review of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) by Jillian L — 02 Aug 2013
So I'm a big fan of the first one. It was a cool way to bring Holmes to a modern audience while still remaining in the original time period. And while this sequel was good, it wasn't as good as its predecessor.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law make a good a team as ever, and adding Noomi Rapace as a gypsy and Stephen Fry as Mycroft to the mix definitely didn't hurt. To me, the whole thing felt rushed, or like it was trying too hard to be bigger and better than the first one.
Like it was replacing the fun clever scenes with action scenes. And the whole slow motion running through the woods thing? It was cool, gratuitous, but cool. So yeah, I thought this was pretty good, just not quite up to par with the first one.
