Review of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) by Trevor R — 01 Feb 2014
This sequel is more scatterbrained and much sillier than the first Guy Ritchie picture, pretty much dispensing with any semblance of mystery or plot and instead jumping straight to explosive, speed-ramped action as often as possible.
Jared Harris and Stephen Fry are welcome newcomers, but both are wasted in bland and underwritten takes on Moriarty and Mycroft. Noomi Rapace's character comes off even worse; a walking plot mechanic that isn't even integral to the plot.
There's still some good gags here (particularly those involving Holmes disguises), plus Downey and Law still make a great team, but the whole thing is a bit on the dull side.
