Review of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) by Tim S — 10 May 2014
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is the sequel to the hit first film. I've gone round and round about how I feel about these films, but I think I can safely say that I enjoy them, and admire them in a weird way.
They feature things like smoking, which doesn't usually happen in summer movies of this ilk, and it has its own style. The scene between Holmes and Professor Moriarty are the best scenes in the film, of course, but Jude Law does some good work too.
This film doesn't have as deep a mystery as the first film, but it doesn't really require it. I kind of like these films and find them to be guilty pleasures, but I appreciate movies that go for a particular style and have their own distinctive feel, so I admire them as well.
They're fun movies to boot.
