Review of Sherlock Holmes (2011) by Luke M — 18 May 2014
A sensational script and devilishly clever premise, halfway through Sherlock Holmes I was on the verge of walking out, inflamed over the film's inevitable conclusion that magic is real. But upon holding out to the final revelation, I was treated to a completely satisfying conclusion where everything was wrapped up just enough to leave me wanting more.
Downey, Law, McAdams and Strong anchor this film with four strong performances. The chemistry between Law and Downey provides for much of the film's humor, wit and emotion, and the attraction between Downey and McAdams makes the latter's character all the more believable. The film mixes its dark and supernatural plot with just the right amount of action and humor to make for enjoyable repeat viewing.
