Review of Sherlock Holmes (2009) by David L — 16 Jul 2012
Although Sherlock Holmes is quite a memorable character in literary history, and more recently on the big TV, I've only really come across him whilst playing some random detective game on the PC. I was amazed therefore when I was able to make several links between that and this more modern day version of the film, and it felt like I was a lifetime fanatic as opposed to a Sherlock virgin.
Speaking of virginity, it's also the first time i've ever seen a Robert Downey Jnr or Jude Law film and I was impressed and thought they bounced off each other well on this first viewing. No matter whether or not you'd previously witnessed any of their films though, or indeed any of Sherlock Holmes' background, it wouldn't really matter as this had a very easy to follow story of its own, filled with special effects, humour, fight scenes, and a good old fashioned mystery to resolve - Could even be described as a James Bond for kids! I'm not the biggest fan of magic, potions, and sorcery, which was what this sleuthing plot was based upon, generally because all that weird science goes totally over my head, but yet this was still a thoroughly entertaining watch.
It unravelled every riddle that was evident and in effect left the audience wanting more - Good job really seeing as the 2nd instalment has already come out.
