Review of Sherlock Holmes (2009) by Niloo R — 21 Jul 2014
Pretentious, self-satisfied, over-assuming, underachieving CRAP. No one in this film is even TRYING. They're just using the names of jude law, downey jr and rachel mcadams to make money and the fact that they make that so obvious makes this movie so much worse and more aggravating.
This movie isn't just bad, it's INSULTING - this movie mocks and undermines the intelligence of every person who pays 12 dollars to see it - or sees it at all, in any shape or form for that matter by assuming that throwing a few big-name actors who actually just stand there and look pretty, a bunch of action sequences and a convoluted plot will make people think that this is actually a "movie".
Having the audacity to not only make this film, but to advertise it as a blockbuster is just unbelievable - it's just like throwing hay at cattle: oh yea, here are some pretty set pieces, some famous actors and some fight scenes, who cares if this has no intellectual basis, thought or effort - we still want to take your money for it.
The directing was sloppy - the scenes were all over the place, the camera work was confusing and hectic, the actors just stood there and got paid for being themselves, not for acting, and i'm pretty sure the screenwriter for this was the same guy who did the scooby doo films, because the level of thought and plot development was at that level - except that scooby doo was intended for children under 10.
the only good thing I can say about this is that the sets looked very pretty, as did the actors and costumes - but even that's a backhanded compliment, because all that is a facade to take attention away from the fact that this film has nothing to offer.
in all, I would like to have that 2 hours and 14 minutes of my life back.
