Review of Sherlock Holmes (2009) by Robert I — 22 Jan 2013
Holmes is on the case of the Resurrected Man, a man who died and has somehow come back from the dead.
My biggest complaint with the film is that Guy Ritchie brought almost nothing that he's learned from his indie films to be used here. Only the slow-mo from "Snatch". One camera angle reminiscent of his old style during a chase is missing all the flair he used to have.
That said, the acting's great and the film's a mystery. Except every time Holmes is actually solving the case a fight and/or explosion breaks out. This makes for a faster paced movie, but sometimes the mystery is interesting enough to drive itself.
The film follows the structure of "Casino Royale" too almost 95%. Take that for what it is. Sadly, that reads as uncreative in my eyes. But fun popcorn flick.
Edit: Wow... This wasn't what I was expecting... While I'll see it, expectations severely lowered.
