Review of Sherlock Gnomes (2018) by Gert J — 19 May 2018
The first (Gnomeo and Juliet) was cute. It had a strange premise that oddly gave the story room to explore the different weird situations inanimate garden gnomes would have to contend with IF they had to come alive. The 2nd though...this one....oh boy. It adds characters which should also be inanimate...and thats where the invention stops. Not even halfway through I already predicted 75% of the ending. If telegraphs it from miles out. Even though they tried to crack jokes that adults should get, the main focus has always been kids. The dialogue, disposition and just the general way in which it all unfolds feels clinical and void of substance.
It's not an offensive experience. There's fun to be had...but not nearly enough to warrant the overblown ticket price.
TL; DR: It's an ok movie that dared nothing. Unfortunately forgettable.
