Review of Shepherds and Butchers (2017) by Chris D — 04 May 2017
This movie exceeded my expectations wildly and was an accidental discovery. It's been a few days since watching it and it remains in my mind. A "feel good" movie it certainly isn't, but certainly one must have more appreciation for you own life after watching it.
It hits hard, and the depictions of capital punishment are vivid...indeed, disturbing. I thought the performances were all solid, great camera work and well produced.
I can imagine that some will find some of the South African slang used in the movie just a little confusing (eg. "Bakkie" = pickup-truck) but you'll get it in context.
Definitely recommend. Just be prepared to find it disturbing.
