Review of She (1984) by Justin A — 12 May 2014
This was... uh... yeah. For a movie with a paper thin plot, it's actually really difficult to follow what is happening. That is because they just constantly throw random things into the movie that are difficult to understand exactly why they are there. Like a robotic Frankenstein monsters and a fat man wearing a tutu. It's actually kind of sad. I got to thinking that the director was trying to make a movie that would gain a cult following for being so off the wall and hilariously bad. It's kind of sad when that doesn't happen and the movie just falls into obscurity. Imagine if a movie like Basket Case had never become a cult hit and nobody had ever really known of its existence. It's like watching someone publicly humiliate their self for a laugh, but nobody pays attention. That's what it is like watching She. When it was over I just felt bad for the filmmakers because I could see what they were going for, even if it wasn't very good even at those lower standards.
It's hard to recommend. It's for a certain type of audience, and even then it does run a little long and it's really just a bunch of random events that you struggle to sit through to get to the end. I really dislike movies that seem to lack a focus, and this definitely falls into that category. If you want a bizarre, sometimes hilarious b-movie, you may enjoy this. I personally got a bit bored after 40 minutes.
