Review of Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) by Greg B — 07 Aug 2015
"Shaun the Sheep," created by the producers of "Chicken Run", is an animated film about a sheep named Shaun who lives with his flock and a guard dog on the outskirts of a big city. Shaun is tired of his everyday routine and locks the farmer inside a trailer so he and the flock can have the run of the place.
However, things don't go according to plan, and Shaun and his friends have to go to the big city to recover the farmer. Many misadventures occur along the way, such as a rivalry with the animal containment officer and other misadventures.
Not everyone will love this kind of animation. There is very little spoken dialogue and the characters are left to convey their emotions through gestures and facial expressions. I personally found this film refreshing.
Though admittedly goofy, the film is also very heartfelt and genuine and tells a true story of a farmer's special relationship with animals he raised from infancy. Even though this relationship goes afoul during the movie, the farmer and his animals never forget the connection they have.
This is a wholesome animated film ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ B+.
