Review of Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) by Jason M — 09 Aug 2015
Shaun the Sheep.
Initial Reaction: It's Baa-utiful.
Main Characters.
Shaun: He's a sheep voiced by Justin Fletcher.
The Farmer: He's a farmer voiced by John Sparkes.
Plot Summary.
Life is going a bit too tiresome for Shaun and his flock. Every day they do almost the same things - only to dread doing the very same things the next day.
So they take action in order to break the monotony. They trick the farmer to fall asleep inside a trailer so they can go do whatever their hearts desire is.
But the plan goes wrong when the trailer accidentally rolls off into the big city and crashes. The crash causes the farmer to lose his memory.
Shaun and the sheep, as well as a sheepdog, head into the big city to find the farmer and get him back safely before he realizes something's wrong.
However, an animal control officer complicates matters - a lot.
SCORING.
Main Characters.
Shaun is great as a sheep who just wants to have fun - then realizes just how much trouble the fun's going to cause.
And I like the Farmer as the clueless guy who doesn't know what his sheep are capable of doing. SCORE: 9.
Supporting Cast.
The rest of the flock is good - as a group. And the main bad guy, the animal control officer, is okay for the movie. SCORE: 7.
Plot.
The film starts off great with Shaun and his flock doing whatever it takes in order to get a day of rest. But for me, the middle of the film felt like a drag as Shaun and the others try to find the farmer. But the ending is mildly entertaining. SCORE: 7.
Originality.
Sure, there may be a lot of films about animals acting like humans when human are not around (Barnyard comes to mind). But there's something about the style of animation that gives it a lot of charm. SCORE: 7.
Violence Factor.
A wall gets torn down, and several creatures get shocked as well as creatures get tossed down a deep pit. But there's nothing too terrible about any of this (Maybe the youngest viewers will get scared.) SCORE: 8.
Other Moral Issues.
This film is about how a family is formed when nobody is remotely related to each other. But it has to be said that sheep and dogs don't act like this in real life. Just saying. SCORE: 8.
Final Score (out of 60): 46 % Score: 76.67%.
It has it's charms, but the story dragged on a bit too long for me to really enjoy the film.
