An animated sheep movie with no words! That's a pleasant idea for a kids movie. "Shaun the Sheep Movie" is a delightful end-of-summer treat. Just like the animated smash "Minions", "Shaun" has a light story but it has no talking, it only has animal sounds, burps, jabs and funny gags. "Shaun the Sheep Movie" is a silent movie with bright colors, cute animals and brilliant references to classic thrillers like "The Night of the Hunter" and "The Silence of the Lambs".
Based on the British television series by Nick Park who created "Wallace and Gromit", "Shaun the Sheep Movie" takes place in a farm somewhere near the city of London where a flock of mischievous sheep led by Shaun (voiced by Justin Fletcher) plan to take a day off from their daily routine. The sheep hatch a plan to put the farmer (voiced by John Sparkes) to sleep and have some fun but the trailer where the farmer is sleeping accidentally rolls away from the farm.
Shaun decides to go by bus to the city and find him but the rest of his flock go along for the ride by taking another bus. Meanwhile in the city hospital, the farmer has amnesia and he can't remember who he is. By blending in with the city, the sheep disguise themselves as people in order to find the farmer but they are being trailed by Trumper (voiced by Omid Djalili), who is a cruel animal-control worker.
After wandering into a hair salon, the farmer cuts a celebrity's hair because he thought he was cutting sheep wool. The celebrity actually likes his new hair and the farmer becomes a popular new hair stylist named Mr. X.
With a running time of only 85 minutes long, "Shaun the Sheep Movie" is another stop-motion gem from Aardman Animation. It maybe dialogue-free but "Shaun the Sheep Movie" has full of warmth and humanity and it will bring back memories of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.
