Review of Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) by Dana F — 04 Jul 2017
This is about as cute as a movie about sentient sheep can be. The movie is all taken from the perspective of animals (particularly the titular Shaun, who is the ringleader of the flock), so there are no words at all.
Even the humans only make indecipherable sounds, which is probably what we really sound like to animals. As an animal lover, I found it to be very charming and cleverly done. The whole story is acted out in pantomime, and regardless of the lack of language, it's 100% easy to follow.
The film is definitely targeted to kids, but there are a few jokes/references thrown in for the parents as well. It's based on a children's series of the same name, but you don't need to know anything about the series to enjoy the movie.
The story is charming, funny, and sweet, and it teaches a good lesson: the grass isn't always greener on the other side. This film will warm even the sub-cockles of your heart. It's great entertainment for the kiddies and fun for grown-up folks too.
