Review of Shaun of the Dead (2004) by Chris D — 12 Jul 2013

Been a long time in getting round to watching this, but having finally viewed it...............I could wait even longer to see it again. Whether some of the jokes have now become a bit dated, or whether it just wasn't that great I'm not sure, but it just didn't have me gripped for long periods.

As it told the story of zombies taking over the streets of London, we focus on two best mates, so used to living their repetitive couch potato lifestyle, who set about rescuing there family and friends from the apocalypse before it comes too late.

it had some good one liners, but I was only having the odd wry smile as opposed to fits of hysterics, which was a shame given that the film had clearly dedicated itself over to being a spoof comedy as opposed to an actual zombie horror.

There were a lot of familiar faces in this including Bill Nighy, and a cameo appearance from a young Matt Lucas - just a shame they didn't include him more from a comedy perspective! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad film, just that I was expecting a little more from it.

It was entertaining throughout with the typically British dry style of humour used, and the story flowed nicely, culminating in a fiery conclusion down the local pub. It's one of those comedy partnerships which I can give or take really - not desperately eager to see more from them on the basis of this, but I wouldn't shy away from other instalments if presented with the opportunity (if the price is right of course)!
