Review of Shaun of the Dead (2004) by Ben T — 15 May 2015

Shaun of the dead is one of the funniest comedies ever made, this film is witty, entertaining and very very rewatchable. I've seen this film about 4 or 5 times and every time I see it it gets better.

This film is the perfect blend of horror and comedy. The acting is all great, this has some really good British actors. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Dylan Moran, Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton.

There is a lot about this film that works. For one this film is really really funny, it's literally non stop laughs from beginning to end. Edgar Wright brilliantly directs this film, he's one of the best comedy directors and directs all of the Cornetto trilogy brilliantly.

This film is very fast paced, it's only an hour and a half but it's goes by like nothing which isn't a bad thing as I really don't like boring comedies. The gore and action is also really good, it's surprisingly brutal for such a funny movie especially the scene where one of the characters is pulled out of a window and ripped open.

I really like the start where they fight the two zombies in the back yard, using kitchen utensils, records and stuff in the shed. Shaun is one of the most relatable characters of all time. At the start of the film u feel really bad for him as he just constantly messes up his life however by the end of the film he's an unexpected hero.

Nick Frosts Ed is really funny he's a character if handled wrong could've been incredibly annoying however he's really funny and probably the best character. There are some really idiotic but funny moments like the bit where Shaun goes to the shop down the road and is unaware of all the zombies around him.

Shaun's plan to go to the pub and wait out the apocalypse is incredibly stupid and gets about most of the group killed. There's also some suprisingly emotional scenes. The one with Bill Nighy and Shaun in the car is very sad but the final scene with Shaun and his mum is genuinely heart breaking I nearly cried it was that sad.

This is a great film and while I don't like it as much as Hot Fuzz it's still great. It's one of my favourite comedies and zombie movies. A.
