Review of Shattered Glass (2003) by Jiana W — 16 Sep 2012
The true story of a hotshot young journalist who was discovered to have built his career on spinning entertaining but partially or fully fabricated stories. The film is interesting throughout and the acting is great from everyone. When I first saw this movie years ago in a media class, some of my friends said they "felt sorry" for Stephen. I remember myself and another friend were incredulous to such a wasted sentiment. What a disgusting guy Stephen Glass was. Anybody who can sit there for so long and just lie to friends and family and coworkers day after day about your work, and then even lie about your lies... you are just a horrible person, period. No exceptions.
I watched his interview with 60 Minutes where he said he lied because he just loved the feeling of people swooning and gushing about his pieces. I can manage to believe that but as for his so-called "apologies" to those he hurt, I don't see how anyone could believe them. He was even having a hard time become a lawyer because of this situation. Now you know you've seriously effed up ethically when you can barely get a position as a *lawyer*. The man is a pathological liar and a psychopath. I'd be surprised if his name is truly Stephen Glass. What a detestable creature.
