Review of Shattered Glass (2003) by Braden . — 10 Aug 2010
This film has a quality that I rarely see in films: It's constantly absorbing and endlessly intriguing. The performances in this film are flawless, there's not a weak player among the entire cast.
Hayden Christensen is phenomenal and embodies the boyish and vulnerable nature of the character he plays. He is a devious man in the film but he appears so vulnerable and innocent that I couldn't help but sympathize with him.
Maybe that makes him an underrated character actor. Some of my personal favorite actors appear in this film such as Steve Zahn, Hank Azaria, and the incredibly brilliant Peter Sarsgaard who is extraordinary in this film.
Chloe Sevigny and Melanie Lynskey deliver some great supporting performances. Shattered Glass is a perfect film with an intelligent script and tight direction from Billy Ray. I find Journalism to be one of the most intriguing fields of work in the world, so naturally I was satisfied by this film but it wasn't just the story of this film that grabbed me, it was everything about it.
The story took several twists and turns and the film is a very suspenseful and fascinating effort from some very talented people. Shattered Glass is a masterpiece. A damn fine film if you ask me.
