The reason Burt Reynolds made this gritty action film was that his good friend Clint Eastwood started to make comedies, Reynolds turf.
And jesus what a movie. It maybe a little slow paced for action fans but it is a great fucking film.
Burt Reynold back in the day was at one time the #1 box office draw for years. But that was with his comedies like smokey and the bandit, and Cannonball run days. Not many actor of his stature would have gone through what his character does in this film. I mean would you ever see Harrison Ford, Vin Diesel, Brad Pitt being tortured and having finger cut off, No way. Great film.
