Review of Sharky's Machine (1981) by Gord T — 01 Nov 2007
Burt reynolds is an awful director. at first it seemed like there was some promise for good action with a botched drug deal leading to a chase down and sharky (burt) killing the crazed killing drug dealer on a city bus during the day.
that was about the peak of the action. this movie had trouble following important parts of the story. for instance there is a drug crazed killer who makes his way not often enough into the story. they have a long boring stakeout that I didn't quite understand.
burt reynolds I expected more from... it was sappy and boring and just bursting at the seams with diarrhea (because shit has substance). burt tried now and then to be artistic (mostly with reflective camera shots).
at one point I felt like the investigation sequence was inspired by some news team event with printing presses going and what not. this movie was not too good at all. the one character I really liked the most (the drug addict hitman) was hardly in it or developed at all.
if he was in it a little more it would be worth maybe another star. I expected more from burt reynolds, an action man himself known for doing his own stunts. this movie should be forgotten.
