I've heard a lot about The Asylum, but this was my first time actually watching one of their products.

What we get here is a ludicrously ridiculously scenario of nature run amok. A massive storm brings a vast number of vicious man eating sharks to Los Angeles, and the film follows a particular group of people trying to survive this dire situation.

So right off the bat I have to say that, while yes, there is the titular sharknado (shark/tornado hybrid), the main force is actually a hurricane, and not a tornado.

And yeah, I realize that this is a tongue in cheek type of film that is bad by design, but even then, I can't help but emphasize that it is a quite terrible film.

That being said, it is very entertaining, rather funny, and not a complete waste of time. It's not always 'good' or 'enjoyable' for the right reasons, but there is a certain charm here that makes this film something to check out and unwind to.

The acting, special effects, direction, and writing are all bad, but the idea, as stupid and absurd as it is, is actually kind of intriguing, despite the fact that it isn't entirely possible (though there IS a slim chance that it could actually take place). While watching this I actually started thinking about how this actually good be a legitimately decent film if done a different way, and yeah, I'm dead serious about that.

For what it is, this film does have its merits, and at least is aware of what kind of product it is. It's not something I ever want to see again, and I do think that not everyone will 'get' this, but I do think that if you need to give your brain a rest, then sure, get some friends and some booze, and give this a spin.
