Review of Sharknado (2013) by J.e. D — 10 Jul 2014
The thing about Sharknado is it has everything in it that would make me love it as a "so bad, it's good" movie, but it's just missing that magic touch that other movies of it's kind, like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Plan 9 from Outer Space, had in their grasp.
That touch being the director thinking he was actually making something good. Sharknado just has some soulless feel in it, unlike the previously mentioned films it's almost mean spirited in it's craziness.
Yes, the famous scene where a man chainsaws his way out of a shark is cool, but it doesn't have that strange sort of competence that other ones, like the watermelon monster in Drunken Wu Tang or the drop kick in Godzilla vs.
Megalon, had. That's really all there is to say about it, Sharknado is just a movie that tried to be a campy classic, but in that it was missing the quality that makes one, the feeling that some insane guy standing behind a camera thought "I'm making a masterpiece.
".
