Review of Sharknado (2013) by Tim S — 21 Jul 2014
It's hard for me to rate a film like Sharknado, because there's something else at play in this movie that doesn't warrant a proper ratings system. I'm a big fan of unintentionally bad movies and I stayed away from this one for a long time because it was made for the specific purpose of being terrible, which turned me off completely.
It's more fun watching a movie that someone has made that DIDN'T KNOW they were making a bad movie, which is where the entertainment value comes from for me. That being said, I think Sharknado is even worse than even IT knows.
There are some marvelously funny moments in this movie that feel unintentional to me, which sort of strengthens the intentional ones. It's a very odd mixture, but it somehow works. Believe me, I can't believe that I'm typing all of this.
I was caught off guard by how much I enjoyed it, but based upon my ratings of previous bad movies, I have to rate it accordingly. It's not the biggest pile of manure I've ever seen, intentional or not, but it's certainly a smelly one.
