Review of Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014) by Henrik B — 12 Oct 2014
While slightly more fun than the first, embracing it's completely stupid premise and giving us lots more shark action...it's still Sharknado 2 and it is absolutely horrible! Right from the opening on a plane that references the infamous Twilight Zone episode as well as featuring Robert Hays from Airplane as the pilot, I knew the film wasn't taking itself seriously at all, which was the right choice.
The rest of the movie is the same old crap with OTT shark kills, cringe-worthy (yet hilarious) dialogue, and bizarre cameos ranging from Andy Dick and Billy Ray Cyrus, to Matt Lauer and Judd Hirsch! The idiocy is so apparent in the "plot" that they actually thought it was clever to have a scene where the main character leap-frogs over several shark's heads, to have a character say, "hey, you just jumped the shark!".
It's hard to critique such an unashamedly terrible movie that knows it's crap, but it's hard to hate something that is so ridiculous you laugh at it throughout.
