Review of Shark Tale (2004) by Renzo V — 10 Apr 2014
"OSCAR, THE SHARKSLAYER".
- 'Shark Tale' is a 2004 computer-animation film by Dreamworks Animation. It tells the tale of the strange friendship between a fish and a shark. This colorful and very amusing film, hints to the modern day life as the riff resembles New York (including the cabs). The humor is good and even the characters look like the celebrity's who did the voices. With Will Smith (Men in Black, Independence Day), Jack Black (Shallow Hal, King Kong) , Renée Zellweger (Bridget Jones, Jerry Maguire), Robert DeNiro (Taxi Driver, Meet the Parents), Angelina Jolie (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) and Martin Scorsese (Gangs of New York, The Wolf of Wall Street). Suited for a afternoon with the kids. And with the catchy theme song by Christina Aguilera and Missy Eliot.
Local Whale Wash employer Oscar (Smith) dreams about a rich and famous life, unfortunately he owes his boss Sykes (Scorsese) 5000 clams. His best friend, and secret admirer, Angie (Zellweger) offers him the pink pearl of her grandmother to help him pay his debts. But on the day of payment, Oscar overhears two fish talking about a seahorse race. He decides to place all of the clams on a bet, and gets the attention of the beautiful fortune seeker Lola (Jolie). When Oscar loses the bet, Lola departs and his boss ties him up and leaves him in a desolated place. There he is noticed by two sharks, Frankie and his vegetarian brother Lennie (Black), who are the sons of crime lord Don Lino (DeNiro). When Lennie faked an attack on Oscar, his brother Frankie is furious and decides to eat the fish himself, but gets hit by an anchor and dies. As Lennie flees the scene, Oscar claims to have defeated the shark. As 'the sharkslayer' he becomes popular. But it won't take long before Don Lino tracks him down...
