Review of Shark Night 3D (2011) by Jose M — 10 Oct 2011
1975 brought us Jaws which scared the crap out of a lot of simpletons. 1978 brought us Piranha from Roger Corman which made us simpletons laugh. I don't know why. Piranha would be remade in 2010 by Alexandre Aja and that film was pretty good.
A year later, Shark Night would be made and that film film was not so good. What went wrong? Well, Piranha 3D was a fantastic creature feature that was very indulging and upfront about it. Here, the film tries to come off a serious even though this is a bad satire and weaker version of Piranha 3D.
The film has a lot of cheesy acting and it tries to be smart with the sharks even though the sharks are blown way out of proportion. There are villains in the movie that are not so good and just bad as in terms of vile and evil.
There is some decent gore and shots of bikinis especially from the beautiful Sara Paxton. She nearly wears a blue bikini throughout the entire film. Not that I am complaining which is always a welcome.
Piranha 3D is your best bet and Shark Night 3D should easily be un-remembered like a night stand. Oh, just notice this film is rated PG-13 which explains a lot although it felt like a trimmed R-rated flick.
