Review of Shaolin Soccer (2001) by Meg M — 06 Aug 2009
Stephen Chow is a mad genius of film-making. His unique vision creates an entertaining and original concoction in seemingly every movie he makes, and Shaolin Soccer is one of his best. If the concept of wire-assisted super kung fu masters using their powers for soccer tickles your fancy, this is one weird flick that will hit you where it counts.
If you like sports movies, watch this - it lampoons many of the conventions in amusing ways while still giving the same great feeling you get from watching a real sports movie. If you like martial arts movies, it definitely deserves a watch for the amusing and well-choreographed martial soccer matches and twisted yet classic storyline.
If you like strange comedy...this is a screwball romp that will make you laugh. If you like all three like me, you will forever be addicted to Stephen Chow by the virtue of this movie.
