Review of Shank (2010) by Rich J — 09 Oct 2010
A nice look at a possible britain of the future even if the story line is pretty generic. So theres a good gang who dont kill who lose there leader and go on a revenge trip around various london gangs.
Like a gang related road trip as it were. Not original in the slightest and takes lots of elements from different movies (district 13, the warriors even clockwork orange in a sense)but its bloody good fun.
The gang are a likable lot and well acted by the cast and the rest of the mostly young cast are fantastic, in fact this film is just well acted overall. The journeys a fun one to go on and thou the ending is expected I somehow felt it was going to be darker.
In fact thou it touches on it I expected this film to be heaped with darkness. Its no laugh out load comedy by any means but the bleakness of the start settles down and after a while famine london just seems the norm.
Some great little pop culture sequances like animated sections and a dog fight done as a mortal kombat style energy sapping fight! The films engaing because its probably not that far from the truth in some places and the pace is great bumping us from one section to another.
A nice little movie that is no means gunna knock your socks off will at least keep you happily entertained for an hour and a half.
