Review of Shanghai Noon (2000) by Kia M — 26 Feb 2013
Entertaining comedic duo between Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson enlivened by expansive sets and neat kung-fu fights, but it follows an otherwise by-the-numbers action storyline. Chon Wang (Chan) is an palace gurad at the forbidden city in China, and when the princess (Lucy Liu) is captured and held for ransom, Wang and three other guards travel to Nevada to rescue her.
Wang gets seperated from the others however, and teams up with outlaw Roy (Wilson), and together they end up in many predicaments they must shoot or karate chop their way out of. Chan's fighting moves are fun to watch and the film is funny overall, but the plot is very predictable and provides no surprises.
