Review of Shanghai Noon (2000) by Ryan V — 02 May 2012
The success of Rush Hour probably had something to do with the decision to greenlight this Western buddy comedy. Jackie Chan is Chon Wang, an 1850's Chinese guard who is tasked with rescuing the Emperor's daughter (Lucy Liu) from an opium smuggler (Roger Yuan).
Chon finds an unlikely ally in Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson) a swashbuckling train robber. Shanghai Noon doesn't break any ground, but the amusing chemistry of Chan and Wilson is enough to entertain audiences.
It also helps that there's good camera work and cool stunts.
