Review of Shanghai Noon (2000) by Matt M — 26 Dec 2013
Western comedy about a brave Imperial Guardsman in China on a mission to get the princess back from the States from her kidnappers. Though always an unusual plot, cinema has always had a knack for tying the western genre with the martial arts one.
But in Shanghai Noon, it feels genuinely mainstream and entertaining. Yes, this is a silly film with the usual structured plot, but it could have gone worse and perhaps the real key to this film's success is the solid pairing of Owen Wilson and the always effervescent and daredevilish modern Buster Keaton Jackie Chan.
