Review of Shanghai (2012) by Nilesh J — 25 Jan 2013
Amazing pace and intensity with rich details and decent twists. The corruption part of the story is not too novel compared to the stories involving politicians since 1980s. Yet, the movie is far more realistic for showing almost all characters with flaws (one hero a spineless bureaucrat, another into shooting pornography and with a paunch, the heroin with a shadowy past, the ideologue with extramarital affair etc) and a bizzare climax (where the heroes do not defeat the goons in a blaze of violence).
Beautifully shot.
