An adaptation of 1969 French movie ' Z '. Shanghai is not a pure political thriller as it claims to be. In fact it deals more about the 'puppets' of politicians. A plot - It got everything you needed - a political killing, inside jobs, thugs, corrupted police officers, honest public servants and the helpless peasants.

The script encounters the real kingpins very rarely. Most of the time it respects their positions, referring to them as ma'm or sir, not mentioning a name, and giving you a feel of their mightiness.

It is one of those rare instances when the script itself starts behaving like the characters in it - scared to face the untouchables, thus not giving us a piece of conspiracy. Hence the cinematography here is clear, sharp, fancy and colourful, a visual treat, instead of a dark or a murkier frame which usually goes good with thrillers like this.

The director had done an excellent job in making the Indian version. And casting is the best part. Each and everyone have done justice to their roles. A must watch.
