Review of Shane (1953) by Neil K — 04 Nov 2007
I like Eastwood and Wayne, but this is easily my favourite western. G Stevens took great care over every scene. I first saw it as kid with my mum. you could've heard a pin drop in our house as Alan Ladd walks into the saloon, a dog crawls out of the way, and he guns Jack Palance against the wall.
Then he rides off into the sunset. These were the days when Hollywood directors were poets too - ie before the 60s counter culture arrived. I watch this every few months.
