Review of Shane (1953) by Ryan P — 26 Mar 2009
A classic Western yes, but I don't think it's particularly aged well, especially compared to other classics of this era. I think everybody can agree that the cinematography is incredible and the acting is rock solid (although the young boy is cross-eyed and sincere to a fault), but I think Shane is overly long and pretty standard compared to other masterpieces like High Noon.
Even with that said, the characters, particularly the complex title character, are timeless, as are some of the scenes and lines, but it didn't hit me as hard as I expected it to. There are also a few very fun fights, but the final duel was far too short and ended in disappointing fashion.
