Review of Shane (1953) by Ken T — 11 Apr 2010
I had to go to Grand Teton National Park to see the Starrett ranch - and there it stood with the tall peaks reaching skyward as a backdrop one freezing, yet beautiful August morning. This is the best work George Stevens ever crafted, and a tremendous swan song for the great Jean Arthur.
A "good" gunslinger (Ladd) comes to a western town and defends the townsfolk from evil opportunists. A fairy-tale of a western, and a great one.
