Review of Shane (1953) by Dmitrijus B — 04 Apr 2012
Good: Come back, Shane! One of the most memorable, iconic and yes, beautiful endings in the Western genre.
Iffy: It's slow. And by slow, I mean not boring, but housewifely mundane. Till the very end, the conflict lacks the bloodthirstily romantic cruelty of The Searchers and is more akin to a domestic brawl than the legendary times when the Nation was created. But then again, I suppose that can be seen as realism. And the ending redeems all.
