Review of Shane (1953) by Mister William Citizen Kane — 28 Jun 2008
Shane is a great western and a great film. The story is gripping , suspenseful and heart-warming.All the actors are top-notch. Alan Ladd gives his greatest performance and Brandon DeWilde is absolutely amazing as the little boy.
Eastwood used a lot of ideas from this in "Pale Rider" also a superb western but this was the original. The great Jack Palance at his evil best and the wonderful Elisha Cook, Jr. in another memorable role.
Photography is beautiful. The fight scenes really ring true without the gore of later films like "The Wild Bunch", you really feel the violence is happening right in your face! The ending is unforgettable.
