Review of Shame (2011) by Lauren B — 19 Jul 2012
The human soul can be very dark, especially when it has been damaged and traumatized. "Shame" is the study of a brother (Michael Fassbender) with a sexual addiction and his sister (Carey Mulligan) who comes to New York after leaving her boyfriend.
Both are burdoned by their childhood and now that they are together again, their lives take a plunge toward the bottom. While not huge on plot, "Shame" delivers a view into the struggles of two people who are trying to find normalcy amidst the struggles of mental illness and addiction.
Fassbender and Mulligan are quite amazing to watch, so much so the average viewer almost feels like a voyeur.
