Review of Shame (2011) by Bob S — 11 Sep 2012
This character drama about troubled siblings with dark secrets that have followed them as adults is disturbing, provocative and especially well-crafted. The story reveals pieces of their past gradually leaving you hooked into trying to understand their lifestyles and their secrets.
However, I did wish the ending would have revealed more answers than it did. Fassbender demonstrated his abilities with an edgy portrayal of the lead character - a role that required a quiet cool exterior with an unstable interior bubbling with rage and lack of confidence.
The director, Steve McQueen (not that Steve McQueen), showed promise as a talent to keep an eye on. For example, his vision on the subway seduction scene is remarkable.
