Review of Shame (2011) by Nanping Y — 27 Jan 2013
I reall like it. Firstly, the cheerful part is the date that Brandon went out on with the black lady. Their conversation did not flow very smoothly, and short silence happened here and there every time when they brought up a new subject.
However, every single word they spit out still seemed to loosen up each other. I was very impressed by that black lady's mature manners when Brandon completely withdrew from the middle of xxx. What she said didn't sound hurtful at all.
She was really nice... Secondly, although the story and plot were fabricated, I do believe those emotional turmoils behind the plots are truly indentifiable to real people. And at some points, the exploration of human's psychological world was so profund that it led to a complete failure of find out what the character was thinking, i.
E., what is man supposed to react when facing that kind of situation... For example, why was Brandon crying when Sissy was singing 'New York, New York'? What happened to them? ... Lastly, I think the movie purposely obscured the reason why Brandon became a sex addict.
It's got to have something to do with their relationship. For example, Brandon never answered Sissy's phonecall. But when movie finished without giving the answer to some speciic questions, I didn't feel it was inadequate.
On the contrary, I felt it was just about enough. Let me just remember the crying face of Brandon in the cold rain on an empty street, standing there alone. looking so old and anguishing. Was that a sad ending? No, I don't think so.
At least, he found something back, as if he was able to cry again, to feel again. For him, it seemed like a right way, an exit he really needed, not through xxx.
