Fassbender and Mulligan put in outstanding performances in a film about the little spoken of sex addiction, as well as broken relationships between family members. Fassbender never let's you leave his sight and again proves he is one of the best actors right now and Mcqueen's directing is both intimate and distant at the same time.

Mulligan's scene singing New York,New York is a case in point and is a beautiful moment in an ultimately cold film. And that's ultimately what lets the film down, the fact that although you initially feel like you've been invited to the party, by the end you are the bloke outside the house looking in.

Come the credits, you never really get any answers.
