Review of Shame (2011) by Ilsa W — 31 Mar 2013
A harrowing portrayal of sex addiction as Fassbender's character trys desperately to fill some gaping emotional void in his life with a gratuitous need for sex. His character goes through a huge amount of emotional turmoil after the the appearance of his apparently disturbed sister, there is obviously some deep seated childhood trauma they both suffered which has made them this way tho you never find out what it is.
His addiction spirals dangerously out of control as her emotional condition worsens. Its not the happiest of stories as there is no Hollywood ending, but it shows how emotionally damaging these kind of addictions can be.
Fantastic performances from Fassbender and Mulligan make this a compelling and quite fascinating movie.
