As a study of sex addiction the focus is on the sex scenes themselves which are stripped bare of any eroticism. I'll give the benefit of the doubt here and assume that this was a deliberate effort by the filmmakers intended to reflect the predicament of the central character.
Unfortunately there is precious little done to explore the underlying explanations for his condition, besides a vague hint at a troubled past. Wants to be provocative, but fails to stimulate, intellectually or otherwise.
Is anyone that shocked by sex on film nowadays? Ultimately it's too artsy, with little character development, no story, and too many lengthy scenes where nothing happens to develop anything.
