I appreciate this film and am aware of the various components, from the imagery, to the performance, to the holistic directorial vision that makes it a work of art. it exemplifies mcqueen's aesthetic and narrative style, which focuses on crafting a clinical and almost sterile observation of a sociocultural malady, rather than humanity, growth and emotional authenticity.
mcqueen does what he does extremely well, but what he does doesn't resonate with me or what I think filmmaking should be.
